Texas Hold Em: Overbetting
Some people use the overbet method to bluff other players into believing they have a better hand than they actually do. In order for a bet to qualify as an overbet in needs to be double to three times the amount of the pot. This method is typically used by novice players in order to try and protect their vulnerable hands. Sometimes an overbet can be used to project your array to your opponents, which may force them to believe that only one of two possibilities exist, either you have a total bluff or a monster hand. There are ways to see through an overbet and realize that this is what is occurring. What normally happens when a player is new is that they will use an overbet to protect their hands from being pinched out. This normally occurs with JJ-AA and AKs, however, JJ could be a hand in their array as well. You will more than likely not see a seasoned player use the overbet method unless they have a rather significant hand. Overbets are a great strategy in Texas Hold em, when they are used correctly. This is especially true if you are playing against someone who cannot stand to be bluffed or hates to fold. Sometimes in this case, using an overbet will be the most effective way to increase the value of your premium hands. In some cases he may get over confident and decide to call off light because he thinks you are trying to bluff him.
